High end vs High street make up: Eye Primer

High end vs High street make up

I think this series might help some people, I  was think back to when I started getting into make-up (which was not too long ago) and thought I would of loved a series like this to  help me out . To know when where to buy more expensive make up or brand, when to save and go to the high street or just what high street stuff is equal to high end. I know  many people have done something similar to this and I haven't necessary agreed with things they have splurged so this is why I have started High end vs High street on this blog. These are choices that have worked for me and each week I will be sharing weather I think you should splash the cash or save the penny’s .
This week I will be looking at eye primers I have tried three example from the highstreet/ drug store and two that are seen as high end.
The two Highends are..

Mac’s Prep and Prime
The price is £13 and you get 5g of product it comes in different shades, I have light.
First Impressions..
The package is pretty cool, its sparkly and when you remove it from its lovely box it’s just a simply pot. When I first opened and put my finger in the pot and felt the product it felt amazing smooth, in a way it almost felt as if it would hydrating maybe between a cream and a gel, but when I put it on my hand just feel what it be like applied to the skin it almost felt like powder which worried me a bit.
The Result
I have worn this primer with different eye shadow and as long as you have a decent shadow the product should stay one. In terms of the price it is pretty good for how good it is. I think it maybe a cheaper high end product but it works.

Benefits Stay Don’t Stray

The price is £20.50 and you get 10ml  and I have the shade light/medium.
First impression  the product felt good on the skin not powdery like the Mac Prep and Prime. The packaging is more commercial than Mac, It’s not bad packing. The product comes in a tube and therefore has an applicator that’s not a really a problem I prefer it to putting my  fingers in a tub.

And now for the most exciting bit .The three that I have tried from the  High street /Drugstore are…
Soap and Glory It’s About Prime
£8.00 for 5 ml comes in two shades.
First Impression
Before buying this product I had put a lot of research into researching the product and with majority of things I found being positive and having on average 3 to 4 stars I was excited when I out on my hand the product didn't feel powder was felt like a thin lotion with that kind of consistency  and for £8 I thought I was on to a winner.

The Results
I didn't like it ! It did not do a good job at keeping my eye shadow on my lids which as primer is kind of the main goal. It has been a couple of months since I have used it I don’t have it any more I cant remember if I throw it away or away or gave it away. I think I tried it twice and it failed me both times.  I remember after I used the primer  I was exploring the world wide web I found that Urban decay Primer position was £8, which is cheaper than Soap and Glory but actually works on me !!

The second high street/ drugstore product is
Rimmel London Exaggerate Undercover Shadow Primer
£4.99 for 6ml

First Impression
It seems slightly runner when I first applied it to the back of my hand which had me doubting its potential  it seemed very thin when is not what I was use to but I was pleasantly surprise  I was wearing for shadows for about 7 hours until I forgot I was wearing eye shadow and rubbed my eye. I tried the product with cheaper and more expensive shadows are the results were ..
The Results
I was surprised by this,  I original tried it with some shadows which were crap so after I realised this I gave it another outing and once paired with decent shadows it can last over a good while in terms of hours I would say about 6  hours   with the product being  £4.99.  I think it’s pretty good for its money but be carefully what shadows you match it with I tried it with  a NYC quad and the eye shadow started to fade after 5 and half hours maybe 6 I got annoyed with it and just removed it this is not the only primer that the eye shadow has done with this.

MUA Pro Base Eye Primer
Originally I wasn't going to add this primer because I felt like I had offered a two different drugstore ones with different price points but I decided to throw it in because it is an different price range than the other two.
£2.50ml for 7.5 ml
First impression

The results

When I wore the primer with MUA eye shadows it didn’t do very well but when I wore it with MAC shadows and it lasted from 11:30 am and had to remove it from eyes at 8:30 pm which for £2.50 is pretty damn good !!

In conclusion I think you should base your choose of primer on your eye shadows collection, If you have a lot of High street make up then I would go for a High end I think Mac or Urban decay would be safe bets but if you have a lot of High end then you might be able to play it safe with a high street one.
This is my experience , Hopefully it helps.

  1. I've been on the market for a new eye shadow primer and this post really helped. I think I might stick with my Benefit Stay Don't Stray, it seems to be a good all rounder. Thanks a lot!
